Our Pro Team's beauty picks & tips for the Oscars 2019.
Since 1929 the gold statuettes of the Oscars have been awarded to creative geniuses honoring their moviemaking achievements. We love the Oscars for recognizing all the facets of talent and excellence behind a production, encouraging artists and creators to follow their passions even if they are behind the scenes. The 2019 Oscars truly portrayed what we believe the Academy sets out to represent.
We saw a common theme in this year's acceptance speeches, which touched us as artists ourselves. Never give up, follow your dreams, take chances on people and show your appreciation when people take chances on you, encourage and embrace diversity. And that is what we're all about at The Harder Group. Definitely an Oscar year that will go down in history!
But as fashion stylists, makeup artists and hair stylists, you know our eyes were glued to the Red Carpet! And we must say, again, A+ this year! By far one of the more elegant and spot on beauty award show in the last year. So we gathered our team's top beauty picks, favorite hair styles, and favorite head to toe looks. And although there were VERY few looks we disliked, we share a few tips on what not to do.
The Harder Group's Favorite Trends Seen at the 2019 Oscars
The Perfect Nude Lip
We loved all the nude lips that let the rest of the outfit shine.
J. Lo is one of the few people who can mix a golden sun kissed look so perfectly with all that silver reflected mirror. Perfect peach nude lip and color pallet to tie it all together,
Kacey Musgraves had a lot going on with that tulle, but saved the look with a perfect nude lip. We love a full face of Pat McGrath makeup!
Tessa Thompson's makeup artist Alex Babsky made the right choice with this nude lip, letting the attention be drawn to the beautiful gold shine on her eyes.
Ashley Graham lets her eyes do the talking. Makeup artists Kate Synnott got the look just right.

Soft Elegant Beauty
Gemma Chan was probably our favorite overall look of the evening. We have to give it to makeup artist Monika Blunder for giving Gemma a perfectly filled natural brow. Time to get over the "InstaBrow" and back to the soft elegant beauty! And we're loving the green detail in the eye liner. It's subtle and creates fluidity with her gorgeous jewels.
Lucy Boynton stunned! We love the soft blown out look makeup artist Jo Baker created. It's all about the natural brow and lash. When you choose subtle colors correctly you don't need heavy makeup. Absolute beauty.
KiKi Layne got the hair and makeup right. Beautiful halo braid went perfect with the look makeup artist Rebekah Aladdin created. We love that the artist laid off the contouring trend and let KiKi's features be soft yet naturally defined. We love to see a strong brow without over highlighting the brow bone. Stunning!

The Updos We Love
Amandla Stenberg's hair blew us away! We loved hair stylist Vernon Francois' fresh take on Hollywood waves incorporating braids and adding a textured look.
Lady Gaga's modern take on an Audrey Hepburn inspired look was a big win. Hair stylist, Frederic Aspiras, and makeup artist, Sarah Tanno, got it just right. Her metallic silver eyeliner was the perfect amount of Gaga edge.
Zuri Hall mixes natural with style. We love the controlled volume this high pony tail gives her natural curls.

Glamorous Pastels
Emilia Clark makes us fall in love with her on screen and off. We love us a metallic pastel.
Amandla Stenberg's dress reminds us of both her softness and fierceness in The Hate You Give. Nude pastels...so timeless.
Elaine Welteroth, a colorful queen, found an elegant way to incorporate color and movement in her look.
Jason Momoa's pastel pink scrunchy... yes, yes, yes!! For his first suit ever handmade for him, we'd say he's off to a good start.

A Range of Trains
Gemma Chan got the beauty and the fashion right in Valentino Couture. We're still wondering how someone can make something so shapeless look so stunning?! And that neck, gorgeous!
Regina King not only made us cry from her acceptance speech, but has us hoping we look as good as her at 48! Keep showing off that leg with that gorgeous white train.
Tina Fey had just the right amount of flow in her train and in her locks. Beautiful on the inside and out!

THG Picks Head to Toe
Yes, yes, all around yes.
Regina King was a Hollywood Greek goddess.
Brie Larson brought the badass metallic warrior vibe to the red carpet.
Gemma Chan hit every note in her red carpet look. And did you see her Vanity Fair after party look. We will be obsessing over her until further notice.
Jennifer Hudson stunned in this S curve gown. The Power of the S curve in design always keeps the eye moving and gives a still image fluidity.
Billy Porter turned heads on the red carpet with his velvet tuxedo gown. Please keep being fabulous,
Julia Roberts was pretty in pink as she wrapped up the night. This pretty woman never disappoints.
Mahershala Ali brought the cool and the classy. We love the sleek black with a perfect choice of button up shirt collar mixed with aviator style glasses and a black beanie.

THG Tips
Amy Poehler may need to have a chat with her glam team. Unfortunately it was just too much black with her suit and dark eyes for our liking. For fair complexion we love to soften the look with a pop of color on cheeks or lip and dark liner ONLY on the top lid.
Maya Rudolph went all pink, but it didn't work for us. Her pink eyeshadow was too saturated for all the other pink in her dress and jewelry.
Emma Stone had a bit too much orange. Although her overall makeup application looked nice, her head to toe look had too many coppery tones. Did anyone else think... cockroach?
Michelle Yeoh, we LOVED the dress, but would have loved to see the left side of the hair slicked down with the volume only on the right side. With all the volume in her dress and gorgeous drop earrings, the hair could have been a little more sleek.
Extra Pro Tip #1 - Skin prep. Aloe VERA Eye Treatment pads are amazing for taking down under eye puffiness. We like to refrigerate them so they're nice and cool for our clients...and ourselves! If you're traveling to an event make sure these are in your beauty bag! - Corinne Tweddel
Extra Pro Tip #2 - Priming and powdering. While dewy fresh faced glow is very in, it reads wildly different in person and on camera. And there is such a thing as too much shine. Always make sure to powder puff the T zone. - Kyle Harder
